Another Weekend Come and Gone

We'll be into February after this next weekend! Geez oh Pete - when did that happen? This year is already flying by too quickly...! I am sick and not feeling so hot still. Friday was the worst day, but my head is still really congested and I'm exhausted still today... I spent a lot of Friday and this weekend napping.

I managed to get it together enough to take Kent out for some errands on Saturday, and then home quickly to collapse again for most of the afternoon. We finally got the Christmas rubbermaids back into the attic as well... did I admit that out loud??! Yes, I finally gave up on waiting for my husband to do it or initiate it getting done and Kent and I did it ourselves! Only a couple times did I think I might fall and tumble to my death clutching a green and red rubbermaid filled with various snowman decorated articles... :) But here I am, I survived and Kent didn't have to call 911, so all is well!

I also managed to get through my P90X work outs on Friday and Saturday, even though I wasn't quite sure if I was going to pass out or not once or twice. When you're already exhausted and feeling cruddy those workouts will wipe the floor with you. I did 90 minutes of Yoga X on Saturday and my hips are still feeling it.

Kenneth got home on Sunday afternoon and was pretty worn out himself - he always is after Drill weekends. Crazy to think that really is about his last one! His last day in the Reserves is the day after the next Drill starts, so he'll go for the first day and then be done most likely... feels like we're growing up and finally moving on to the next phase of our lives this year - seems weird to say considering the fact we're almost 30 with a 6th grader, but in a lot of ways that is what it feels like; another chapter finally coming to a close with his time in the Marines being done and Kenneth's college almost done... I'm just ready for that next chapter I guess! :)

I finished listening to "Lipstick Jungle" on audiobook this morning on my way into work. I love listening to books in the car! I have "Pandora's Baby" at home hardcopy, but it takes me so long to get through a hard copy book. It's very interesting so far though, so I hope I find the time to read. You'd think I'd have had plenty of time over this weekend with all the down time I had, but I was so sleepy every time I was laying down on the couch to rest I would sort of doze in and out or actually nap - not ideal for reading a book!

Time for another library visit to pick up another audiobook since I'm still waiting for the ones I reserved a couple weeks ago to make it to our library! I love being able to go online and reserve books - I have always loved the library but the electronic system really is fantastic - and I love that Georgia Pines allows you to access resources from SO many libraries.

Ok, enough of my rambliness I guess. Time to go warm up some cream of wheat and see what I can accomplish today!

Kenpo with the Kiddo! :)

Last night was fun! Kenneth is gone the next couple days to Drill (though he did manage to come home around 10:00pm last night, sleep and left again at 6:00am this morning so I got to see him for a little bit!) so Kent and I get lots of one on one time! Last night I convinced him to do the Kenpo-X workout with me and he enjoyed it!! It was SO funny watching him trying to figure out the kicking and punching combinations - his form was really bad, but it was super cute to watch! :D He really enjoyed it too, he said it was fun and he wants to try the other workouts too! Yay! :) Tonight is X-Stretch; I haven't done this video in a LONG time so I don't really remember how it goes off the top of my head, but I don't think its super intense, so he should enjoy this one too, hopefully.

I made a doctor appointment for this afternoon finally. I've been putting it off, hoping this crud in my throat would go away, but it looks like it needs some assistance. I've had what feels like post nasal drip for about a week or so now. My throat feels pretty raw most of the time from all the aggravating mucous and I have a horrible taste/smell in the back of my throat that grosses me out all day long. I can still taste food ok, but I constantly feel like I'm smelling something nasty and disgusting from the back of my throat... blech. I hope its not an infection, we'll see what the NP says when she sees me.

In about 2 more weeks I'll be 3 months post-partum! I can't believe it! Time is flying by, for sure. I'm enjoying being focused on healthy eating and exercising again, as it definitely helps me feel better about myself and I enjoy seeing the small changes in my body. I am ready to see BIG changes, but I know small is a start! :) I've been working to incorporate more vegetarian meals for myself again. I've come to the realization that if this is something that's important to me, I'm going to have to find a way to do it for JUST me and not try to convince Kenneth and Kent to go along with me some of the time. That way I don't have to feel like I'm compromising what I'm eating, and they don't either. So, with that realization and acceptance I've been packing lunches and breakfasts that are meat free (I'm still eating dairy and eggs) and most nights I cook the meat separately and serve myself before adding meat to the dish or just add it directly on Kent and Kenneth's plates. They don't mind that at all, and so I think we all win! Tonight Kent will have some chicken chili leftovers with brown rice and I'll make myself a baked potato and have some broccoli or salad on the side to go with it! Sounds good to me!

I've been trying to keep an eye on my protein intake especially with these workouts, I know overall Americans get PLENTY of protein in their diets, but on the days I cut meat out it does seem to be a little more challenging. I just try to make sure I have a protein drink after workout to help - 12 oz. of Diet V8 splash with 1/2 a scoop of GNC Whey Protein is 10 grams of protein and only 75 calories! I aim for about 60 grams of protein a day. As long as I feel ok during my workouts and feel like my energy levels are maintaining ok, I'll stick with it!

I'm getting ready to enjoy my lunch of a veggie wrap with spinach, tomato and cucumber on a low-carb whole wheat tortilla with a little ranch dressing and some baby carrots and as a treat some tomato basil potato chips we recently discovered - yumm! I have some wheat thins with hummus and a fat free pudding cup for a snack for later this afternoon if I get hungry. Yesterday I ended up taking several of the items I'd packed home with me and having some before dinner and my orange I'd packed for a snack as a dessert.

I've been reading a couple of the Abs Diet books for inspiration and meal planning ideas as well - lots of great yogurt/oatmeal/smoothie recipes and suggestions in them! I've found it just helps keep me on track if I make a point to look up health-related articles, or healthy recipes, or read a book about nutrition, etc. It helps make it a habit instead of just something I'm doing at the moment! :)

Week 4 of P90X has begun!

Yesterday was Day 1 of Week 4, Yoga X. Blech! But we stuck with it and Kenneth and I finished the 90 minute routine together. My arms in particular have felt very fatigued lately and so Kenneth fixed me a "recovery drink" with some Diet V8 Splash and 1/2 a scoop of whey protein. My arms and legs still feel tired today, but maybe not quite as much as yesterday. I think I'm going to try to have something like that after each workout this week and see how I feel - I am not really sore, my muscles just feel tired! It was really hard to keep my arms up in several of the moves yesterday during yoga, they just felt heavy and tired...!

2 weeks left in January! Time is flying... we've had a lot of time off lately with the ice last week and having yesterday off for MLK Jr. Day - so I know the next couple months until our May 30th Memorial Day Holiday are probably going to feel LONG! :) By then Kenneth will be done with school and may already be gone for training!

Kent has lost a fingernail - he pinched it between something heavy a couple weeks ago. I saw it looked pretty ugly, turning all sorts of different colors under the nail and he'd scraped the skin pretty bad on the tip of his finger. So we soaked it in epsom salt water for a couple days, and were keeping it in a bandaid with neosporin and then all of a sudden the nail was just gone! Yuck! The skin underneath was a little sensitive but over the last few days its toughened up and he says it just itches off and on from healing. The skin looks good and pink, no infection, and it doesn't seem to hurt him, but I feel so bad!! I don't think there's anything we could have done to keep the nail from coming off after he pinched it, but I wish I could have! I just hope the nail grows back in ok in the next couple months - I know its going to take awhile and we're just going to have to keep an eye on it and make sure it stays clear of infection. The nurse said to let it air as much as possible, use a little neosporin and protect it whenever he will be using it, like during the day at school... The crazy thing is he didn't even TELL me he'd hurt it! I saw it myself at the dinner table one night, and it had happened a day or two before that! I swear, he'd cut his finger off and just keep it to himself! BOYS!!!

I had a teleconference yesterday with an ED Coordinator at an agency I applied to - she is sending my profile out to their clinics to see if any of them are interested. I think it would be great to work with them, they seem to have good reviews. But, we'll see whether or not anyone is interested in me as an ED or not! I think in my head I've already accepted that it most likely isn't going to happen so I'm ok with it. I still think it would be GREAT to get to do an egg donation, but realize time isn't on my side for this.

I have been feeling distracted today! Maybe its all this gray weather outside... I just feel a little antsy! I think I'm ready for sunshine and warmer weather, but I know I need to be patient awhile longer! :)

Snow Days and Week 3 of P90X!

We are on the last week of this particular set of workouts in Phase 1 (today is Week 3, Day 4)! Almost done with THREE full weeks of P90X! I'm excited! I'm seeing a little progress, its still hard to tell, but I have some definition in my biceps that wasn't there before and a few other spots on my body seem to be slimming a little, even if the scale is still being stubborn! I did Arms, Shoulders and Ab Ripper X last night and pushed as hard as I could. My stomach is fully healed up now, but my knee is bugging me again. I iced it a lot the last couple days and hope it is feeling better soon. I did a lunge sequence with weights a few days ago, and really aggravated it and it's been recovering ever since that.

We've been snowed/iced in for the past 3 days at home! Today is my first day actually in the office this week, and the roads are still very icy and scary to drive on. It took a long time to get here, but I made it. I was nervous the whole way though. There are stretches of solid ice on the freeway that people were driving on... Kent and Kenneth have been off school all week so far as well - Kenneth's first week back to college for his final semester and it's been closed!!
We have the 17th off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so we get a nice long weekend. I'm looking forward to the weather warming up and maybe going camping the next time we have a long weekend. We've been talking about it quite a bit - we've only gone a couple times in the past few years and I am hoping we'll go more often this year! I loved camping when I was little and I know Kent enjoys it and its something we can take the dogs with us that isn't that expensive either. Kenneth and I just have very differing opionions on what "camping" should be - but hopefully we'll find a compromise we can both be happy with so we can get out and enjoy the great outdoors a little once its a bit warmer! :)

The "monthly visitor" has returned

I went on about a week of birth control and stopped taking active pills about 4 days ago now and dear Aunt Flo decided to pay a visit yesterday. This is my first period since delivery and I still can't believe I'm 2 months post partum now! In a lot of ways it is nice to feel back on a schedule of sorts and I've had a lot of bloating and cramping off and on in the past week, so hopefully that will be resolved as well now! I'm a little achy, but not too bad so far - only day 2 though, hopefully it won't be too heavy or painful though.

Kenneth and I are on Day 12 of P90X, legs and back tonight. I skipped the last ab ripper x workout on Tuesday and will see how much if any I can do tonight - whatever I tore in my stomach is still really bothering me when I do certain positions, though most of the day I don't feel anything thankfully. Last night was Yoga X and after about 2 vinyasa/chaturangas I couldn't do plank or upward dog positions anymore because of the stretch in my abdomen, it was pulling in the wrong spot. But I was able to do most of the "yoga belly x" positions, so some ab things I can do, some I just can't right now. I hope it heals soon!! My knee on the other hand is seeming to do MUCH better - no soreness last night... I'm still being careful to pay attention to it and trying not to stress it, but it did fine with the Yoga routine and isn't bothering me at all today so that is good news (especially since we have Kenpo tomorrow and I'll be using my knee a LOT)!

Kenneth goes back to school on Monday, so I think we're going to enjoy a nice quiet weekend together at home and try to get a few projects completed and get the Christmas bins back up to the attic and maybe make a little progress in the basement (aka disaster zone)! :)

Week 2 of P90X!

Week two started yesterday! So far doing pretty good with sticking to my meal plans and the workout program. After the first week I do have two sore spots I'm having to baby a little, something in my stomach feels pulled and my bad knee has been a little swollen and sore off and on. It seems fine on the strength days, but the cardio days are hurting still. I'm hoping as long as I don't over do it as a little of the weight comes off and my muscles strengthen both of those issues will heal and be resolved!

I can't believe we're really and truly into a whole new year! Welcome 2011! I am looking forward to all the good things that will happen this year and having the chance to work on myself and improve myself too.

I've been thinking about starting a memoir of sorts, but the few times I've tried to actually write something I always get stuck... I don't know, I think it might be a good project for me! We'll see if I actually get anywhere with it! :)
