Soft Dinner Rolls

This is a lovely dinner roll recipe to enjoy with any meal - we made this to go with our Thanksgiving dinner and they disappeared very quickly! My yeast didn't proof correctly, but I made them anyway, so mine didn't rise correctly and didn't come out quite as fluffy as they should have, but they were still wonderful. Very soft texture - sort of between a biscuit and a roll and perfect with a little butter and jam, or to sop up some gravy... yumm!

We will definitely use this one again - a great, easy, dinner roll recipe to keep on hand!

Ingredients

1 cup warm water
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/4 cups bread flour
1 large egg
2 tablespoons butter, softened

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions
  1. In the bowl of a Kitchen Aid mixer, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently then allow to stand for about 5 - 10 minutes, or until the yeast is beginning to bubble.
  2. Add in the salt, flour, egg, and softened butter and turn mixer on low - medium speed with a dough hook and allow mixture to combine.
  3. Cover with a towel and set dough in a warm place and allow to rise for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  5. Punch down dough and divide into 15 equal sized pieces and form into rolls and place in prepared baking dish. Brush tops with melted butter and cover loosely with plastic wrap. Set in a warm place and allow to rise for 30 more minutes, or until doubled in volume.
  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and bake the rolls in preheated oven for 12 - 15 minutes or until tops are golden and dough is cooked through.
